The Indian government
has made important changes to Passport Rules, to make the Passport application

The following are the new changes in the Passport Rules, 2025:-
👉Mandatory Birth Certificate Requirement
The Government of India
has changed the Passport Rules, making the Birth Certificate the only accepted
proof of date of birth for people born on or after October 1, 2023.
This Birth Certificate
must be issued by:
➤The Municipal Corporation
➤Registrar of Births and
Deaths
➤Any authorized entity under
the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969
👉Digital Embedding of
Residential Address
To enhance security and
privacy, the residential address will no
longer be printed on the last page of the Passport.
Instead, a secure barcode system will be
introduced to store address details digitally, which can be scanned by
immigration and government officials when necessary.
This change will protect personal
information and prevent misuse if the passport is lost or stolen.
👉New Color-Coded
Passport System
The Indian government has introduced a
new Color-Coded Passport System to
make classification and identification easier
➤White Passport – Issued to government officials.
➤Red Passport – Issued to diplomats
and individuals with special Rights
➤Blue Passport – Continues to be
issued for ordinary citizens.
This system is designed
to improve passport verification and speed up processing at immigration
counters.
👉Removal of Parents'
Names from Passports
In an effort to promote
inclusivity and protect personal details, parents' names will no longer be printed on the last page of the Passport
This update is
especially beneficial for individuals from diverse family structures, reducing
unnecessary disclosure of private information
👉Expansion of Passport
Seva Kendras (PSKs)
To make Passport
Application Services more accessible, the Indian Government has announced an
expansion of Post Office Passport Seva
Kendras (POPSKs)
The number of Passport Centers
will rise from 442 to 600 over the next five years, making it easier for people
in smaller towns and rural areas to access Passport Services.

For individuals born before October 1, 2023, a Birth Certificate is not the only document accepted as proof of date of birth. You can also submit the following documents:

- Election ID Card & Driving License
- Service records for government employees
- Orphanage/Child care home declaration
